Breaking the news to your family that you’ve decided to join the military can be hard for them – they haven’t had time to process the information like you have. Here are a few ways to make the conversation go smoothly so you can get on and get excited about your new career:
Be Ready: for questions, that is. Your family will want to know everything from your pay to how dangerous your specific post will be so come prepared with brochures and information. The more specific the better they’ll feel.
Have Communication Options: if your family’s worried about missing you get some solutions prepared. Talk to them about getting clear wireless internet so they can email you from anywhere and discuss prepaid cell phones as an alternate means of communication. Skyping is always an option, too.
Listen to Them: your first instinct might be to get defensive if they question your choice but stand firm and instead listen to their concerns. Hear them out and relay that you understand – make sure they know you’ve made up your mind, though, and won’t be changing it anytime soon.

That is a question that many people ask in this economy. In many places there are no jobs for people to work. Let us look at that in perspective, because it is truly up to you to decide what is best for you. Let us see the pros and cons of this decision.

Pros: Joining the military will give you a paying job with education. You can earn more money the higher rank you go. There are many opportunities in jobs, education, and travel. There are opportunities of seeing places in other countries that you would not be able to see any other way. You do not have to worry about a place to eat and sleep the military provides it all for you.

Cons: If you are a family man you do not get to see your family as much as you would like. We are in war time so you may not get the duty station you would like it would be based on the needs of the Government. In fact you would not truly have a lot of choices because you would be placed where you are needed. Knowing these the choice is only up to you.

Making the decision to enlist in the military is a noble move. As a service member, you are a protector of the nation’s freedom and values. Enlisting in the military means going through basic training. This means having a Drill Sergeant literally next to your face and hollering at you. While basic training can be tough, it is manageable as long as you maintain a positive attitude and follow orders.

The length and requirements of basic training varies depending on the branch. However, they all have a few similarities. You will be doing a lot of physical training. This includes a lot of pushups, sit ups and running. Working on these exercises on your own before you enter basic training will help a great deal. There will also be a lot of marching to cadence. You will learn how to march in rhythm and in sync with everyone else’s steps. You will also learn how to fire, assemble and disassemble a M16 rifle. Expect to spend a lot of time at the firing range.

There will also be a lot of field training exercises. This includes tactical road marches and communication via hand signals. You will also need to familiarize yourself with the rank structure, military stances, the general orders and how to maintain your barracks.

At the end of your training, you will proudly wear your uniform; you are now a member of your country’s armed forces.

No matter what branch of the service you decide to join you will benefit from it. All branches of the service will teach you respect, discipline, and some form of an education. Recruiters will tell you anything to get you to join their branch. You should know what you want to do before you meet a recruiter, or make sure you meet a recruiter from each branch of the service.
The real question that needs to be answered is “Why do I want to join the service? If you are looking for an education but feel college is not for you, than you might want to join a smaller well-funded branch of the service where you can stand out such as the Air Force. Marines are usually the men at the front of the war, and they can train you to be a great soldier. The Army and Navy are known for their many opportunities and technology they give to their recruits. Every branch has their own benefits to offer a recruit.
Ask yourself why you want to join the service and then find the branch that has what you’re looking for. You may figure out that the military doesn’t have what you want, and college or the workforce better fits you.

Ah yes the military! When one serves his or her nation, they are instantly revered as heroes of the populace. Regardless if there is a war or not, these men and women who serve in Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard or Air Force are admired as their uniform represents everything that stands for freedom. However, there is something to consider when one aspires to join. Which branch would be best suited to me? This is one question that should be answered before one can even begin to think about signing up.

To those who are hoping to prove themselves to be the best, the Marines would be good as a branch to serve as the Marines expect the best. If one admires the sea and has dreams of seafaring, the Navy is truly the branch to join. As for those who love the skies, the Air Force is the branch for you as you can truly soar high with them!. If you want to do the ground work, join the Army. Lastly, if you desire a branch that is close to home, the Coast Guard will work for you as it is primarily concerned with the protection of America’s coasts.

In closing, which branch is up to you? Well given the aforementioned reasons why a certain branch may be suited to certain people, these may be the reasons why one should join their preferred branch. However, it does not depend entirely on suitability, it all depends on preferential choosing.
